The m4® PIM functionality is a combination of product collections with associated collection types, a powerful and dynamic system-wide taxonomy, a powerful MAM, the API builder system called Channels and the underlying tools such as automatic translations.
Channels are responsible for creating API endpoints where products, filtered by taxonomy and enriched with field mappings, can be distributed and exported in various formats, such as XML, JSON, NewsML, catalogue formats and several others. So not just conversion and file export, but live product interfaces.
The product taxonomy system is infinitely extensible and can include additional fields to enhance product maintenance and content. Property fields for variant creation and filtering can be attached to each category to build semantic search and filtering logic.
The PIM, or product collection, covers all PIM-specific needs such as collections delimitation, marketing enrichment of product data, integration with media and documents, and even pricing and logistics data to drive wholesale, retail and trade.
A highlight of the m4® PIM is the freely configurable combinatorial logic of the products, which can take place in two levels per segment and can be traversed by the system in both directions. The available product segments are variations, combinations, attachments, extensions, accessories and spare parts.
By using the comprehensive product relationship system for a product itself, and with foresighted taxonomy, a logical configurator can be built automatically.
Related media with product-specific media descriptions and explanatory information, such as markers with descriptions within images or descriptions of media segments, and documents automatically displayed in the appropriate language contexts round off the PIM functionality.

In conjunction with the PIM, the collection objects and the CRM, the commerce component offers many variants of possible shop concepts that can be quickly configured and implemented.

Products can be created via the PIM functionality with any variant matrices, such as colour, features or size, and individually priced or managed. Combined products, or parts lists, can be managed per module over two levels and are automatically checked by a traversal when displayed. Exceptions, required products or notes can be created for each combination. Products can be assembled from product components, combined with add-on options, equipment, accessories and spare parts, or bundled.

Prices by country, user group prices, cancellation prices, price scales and discounts by user group are available as pricing options for each product or category. In m4®, additional pricing data, such as turnover thresholds, can be stored from ERP or CRM customer data as individual user prices.

m4® also provides stock data, discontinued products, delivery times and delivery options, packaging data, dimensions and weights for product variants. Both physical and non-physical products can be created, and product data sheets or customised confirmation documents can be generated in addition to the order.

In conjunction with collections, product data can be enriched or completely new trading variants can be generated. For example, a ticketing system for events or webinars, drop shipment with participating retailers or partners assigned from the entry collection, service documents individually tailored to the products ordered or personalised documents, warranty cards or vouchers for non-physical products, and more.

The commerce settings allow different VAT rates depending on the user group or VAT authorisation and their account assignment. OSS rules can be activated per EU country, and the customer portal automatically displays past orders and can display cross-selling and after-sales information and documents based on the products ordered.

As payment solutions, invoices, pre-pay invoices, Paypal, SEPA, direct debit, credit cards* and more can be activated, including fraud prevention. For efficient last-mile delivery, middleware can automate order fulfilment and communication between multiple suppliers*.
