How we are shaping M4 into a leading-edge communication operating system while preserving its rock-solid API and business processes.

The last 12 months have shown rapid development, in our development and especially in consumer-facing large language models. After starting our first major R&D project with a combination of specialised neural networks and algorithmic optimisation 10 years ago and with this 10 years of expertise in machine learning and deep learning, we anticipated this shift in AI early. As a result, we built an architecture that allows data and large language models to be exchanged easily, supports own on-premise models and keeps all data exchange GDPR compliant. We selected only those relevant services that are sustainable, trustful and reliable enough to serve as productive tools in enterprise business cases.
To integrate these capabilities, we needed a full refactoring that would bring the previous mozaikoo® versions 1 to 3 forward without losing the strength of its existing foundation, so the platform remains as leading-edge as the previous mozaikoo® versions were. The challenge was to make as few changes as possible to our rock-solid business core, the API, which has proven itself over more than 10 years of continuous and sometimes extreme business requirements.
m4® development is still driven by the same simple premise: communication systems should not fragment the business. Assets, products, customer data, campaigns and editorial content belong in one connected environment if teams want to move with speed and clarity. Instead of treating each communication task as a separate stack, m4® brings all modules closer together. This reduces duplicated work, improves consistency, increases efficiency and gives teams stronger control over what reaches each channel. Needless to say, this also saves money.
The current focus is on making the platform more modular without losing operational coherence. Each area should be deep enough for specialists while still behaving like part of one shared system.
We started conceptualising m4® in spring 2025 and began the groundwork in autumn 2025. Now, in spring 2026, we have completed nine major components, with only four remaining. Those four are particularly feature-heavy: the collection system, the customer relationship model, e-commerce and the messaging system. Based on that scope, we estimate that the project is now about 50% complete.
We are still on the roadmap, with the ambitious goal of reaching 100% by autumn 2026.
You can expect a software stack that makes many of today's laborious, costly and difficult-to-integrate stand-alone solutions unnecessary. With helpful tools, assisting services and out-of-the-box interlinked components, it is designed to deliver unprecedented efficiency gains. As has been shown for many years by previous mozaikoo® versions.
